Thats when Love, Reign O'er me begins. I always thought at the end he found god or something. The Rock could be a summary of all events leading up to the end as well. All the events racing through his head as he rides out lonely and depressed until he finally reaches his breaking point only to find that his childhood is over and that the rain is showering him. He sees the rain as a sign of love, from god or whoever.
