my version:
the guy lost "communication" with the girl, but it was his fault.
so he wants to start it over.
he finally realizes that it was his fualt because he got lost in the riddles that they said to each other. and he wants to make it right.
so he wants to set the tone so that he doesnt get confused again about the girl. he tells her something and however she answers back will be how he will think for now on about her.
to the girl, he just isnt the right person, but he tells her that he needs her help.
he tells her to close her eyes and rest because he finally figured it out and will make things right.
