Stevo, i think its referring to how the person speaking is trying to find the strength to resist another lie (or any other form of sin) from satan, but its such a difficult task that he would rather die then face it again.
And since it's so hard to resist, it is easier to just believe the lies, and die a sort of spiritual death.
