I think the lyric is actually "Stand behind his drunken amp." I took this to mean low-quality or warbley. "Stand behind his light of love" seems to me to mean in the spotlight (for all to see, a one way transmission). "...bloody tongue...blood and war" is pretty self-explanatory. "Do you believe..."--Can this man be trusted? Should I give in to his answers when I have none? "Terrible hit..."--Could be 9/11, Iraq invasion, etc., which sends all of the believers into "rapture" mode...the end is nigh, etc. "Can you tell me..."--Can you give me an answer to the things I can't understand? Can you tell me what to do next, give me meaning, control? Can you save me?

I think the song is basically a jab at Christian fundamentalism and giving too much power and reverence to those who claim to have answers when we do not...
