I have a couple views on this song. To start, it is a beautiful song.
The first view I'd like to share is the use of "they" in the song. Because "they" can be viewed in two different meanings. "They" can mean the general public, or the two individuals in love themselves.
And whose to say that "This town" doesn't mean on of the people in love. He could be in love with a buch of berries. But that's unlikely.
After the line "Only love lets me forget who I really am" David replaces "They" with Me, or Us. So perhaps the entire beginning can be switched backwards. Think on it will you?
