The fact that noone has written about this song blows my mind. Its about an average kid with a below average life trying to find his way. Living in a bad neighbourhood his brother was murdered and his father in prison. And to top it off the girl he felt things for took off. Obviously he is torn and suicide was upon him. His fathers voice crept upon him and begged him to "shake us free" meaning from all the badness in their lives. Shake us free from the stereotype of the family.
