I said that I think it's about someone whose life is pretty sad, and there's this girl that kind of assuages it all and makes him feel better when she's around to love. She's naive and childish and young, and he helps her overcome that while she makes him feel like it's okay for a while. Then she leaves his presence and he realizes that he's got to go back to his misery and thinks of himself as alone until he sees her next, while she's out living life being the happy, beautiful, vibrant girl he sees her as. I don't see it as a break-up song, really. He has a hard time expressing his feelings, sadness and love, because he probably doesn't want to seem weak, and he wants to be leaned on rather than admitting that he needs somebody, too. I probably see it this way because I could then describe my relationship with this song, haha.
