To me this song is about somebody who's lost everything and sunk into madness; 'overload' 'shattered pictures' 'been through the grinder' all seem like metaphors for snapping inside to me. I think that the guy in question wants to take a woman to this room 429, who he's developed an obsession for. (standing outside her window watching her sleep, outside her door with a knife) he wants to take her back to this room where he feels safe, and end his life with her (When they knock at the door the lights are on, but we ain't home = the lights are on, but the people inside are dead now). also the "we'll tell the world outside the door that we aint never coming back no more" point to them never leaving the room.
