I feel like the whole Analog Heart CD was about breaking up from a long term relationship. I see that in this song right away especially from the word dependency. But I will start from the beginning, i think this girl has hurt him over and over but is always able to talk him into believing thats its all ok, even when its not. Hence the "i'll see what you want me to see through rose colored glasses (meaning seeing something through the best light, even when its bad) and the "i can't see the blood in my hand" is saying its obvious she has hurt him but he ignores the pain and stays with her. but this time he is done, won't take it anymore. and (i pray to God i find my way back to something familiar) is his hopes he can stop the pain and get out of this awful cycle. "the painting's worn pale" signifies their relationship growing thin,
"your eyes have started fading" ( her love towards him its fading, she isn't caring anymore)
"were they ever even really there" (him wondering how pure their love really ever was, did she ever really give him 100%??). "nothing to give with everything you take" (i think he feels she uses him). "the cracks in your smile make it impossible
to decipher something legible" (he is trying to read her but she is so manipulative, that he doesn't know what to believe). "no time for dependancy
we're going over at lightspeed" (saying its easy to fall back into the same routine and just take her crap, but this time its really over). "no scenery to stimulate
something older, we grow older
but nothing ever seems to change" (saying they have been through these same fights plenty of times before and they only difference is that they are getting older, and even though they should be maturing and growing out of it, the same crap keeps repeating itself. "i pray to God you lose your way" (he wishes she would realize the mistake she is making). "on one leg only, i'll still take a stand" even though she has broken him with all this hurt he is still strong enough to take a stand and tell her its over.
