my current interpretation of this song reflects a relationship in which the narrator (male or female) doesn't feel like they deserve any of the praise or love the other party is trying to give them.

By giving up and going on, the narrator is abandoning the hope that they can live up to their lover's praises and be as good to them as they are back. They are giving in to the tired, disguised oblivion that they have been trying so hard to deny and to eradicate from themselves and their behaviors, that they have been trying to hide from the one who loves them.

As the narrator's lover refuses to give up on them, in holding on to the faith they have in them, it's reached the point that it seems simply a game to someone who has given up on having faith in themselves.

The narrator is of the mind that all of the values and qualities that their lover praises them for are wrongly founded, that if they truly knew everything, the imperfections, the sin, they would stop loving them.

Thus, the narrator implores for them to stop loving, because they are none of these things that they have made the narrator out to be.
