Haha just caught this too, a shot out to a book most people read in high school, Nathaniel Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter.
The deacon in a colonial community committed adultery with a woman he loved, and while she got branded with a scarlet A and basically ostracized from the community as a sinner, he couldn't tell and she wouldn't tell on him because she loved him.
He starts breaking down physically under the weight of his sin and his guilt, even branding himself an A on his own chest. He ends up falling over dead as he reveals to the townfolk the truth in the end.
I'm weakening like a deacon doin dirt
