I think this song is about a guy who loves this girl, but the girl is already in a relationship with another guy. This other guy doesn't treat her right (if things go crazy, she's lost herself and lost to you) e.g. she is depending on the other guy and if he is getting violent then "she's breaking down slowly" and so will never have the confidence to leave the abusive guy for the other guy who really loves her. She won't talk about the problems though even though the guy who loves her knows what is happening and by keeping silent she's out there on the ice (in a very bad situation).
