I agree. I think the movies hes talking about refers to their relationship, which would have killed them because shes unfaithful. The 'he got leather' etc bit refers to the other guy.
It sounds like hes still really in love with her though because although he 'set the traps' hed 'have pulled her out', he'd forgive her.
