I agree that this song are about a daughter speaking to her father, and about the diamond, i interpreted it as something important in life (at this song, a father life), his daughter. and the verse "u come from an island, u cutting diamond with a rubber knife" is telling that he are a conservative man who had a precious daughter and a chance to shape her well but he took it another way. clever lyric i say :D
