it seems like a song about a relationship that they thought was dying but may not be after all. he says they're chasing heaven (when things were perfect between them) as it fades into black, using 'cheap thrills and fast rides' to keep it alive. the beginning of the song makes it seem like he's been through this before and he's already accepted that this is the end as fact. but then he starts to question himself in the bridge and prechorus, saying 'have we now reached the end just to find the beginning again?' that, along with the reference to crazy 8's (which always eventually come back to a certain point), seems to hint that the song isn't about a relationship ending, but rather repairing itself. at least, that's what i made of it.
