How awesome is this song? VERY !
I lalso just love the bit where he screams "Breakdown" (idk but to me it sounds a lot like "breakdown" than "punchline" at around 3.00 & the kickass guitar solo that comes in at 3.13 . .
As for it's meaning, I'm not really sure, but here's my thoughts on it. I think "streetlight" symbolises something. Maybe it might symbolise some sort of significance to the person who wrote these lyrics. Maybe a "special moment" between him and his lover.
But it seems to me, that he's no longer with that person, since he seems to be reflecting on the past (probably visiting that very spot that holds the significance of the "streetlight" reminding him of that special moment, espcially of her.
He's wondering where the relationship went wrong or why she's no longer with him anymore.
He's probably trying to keep a hold on his feelings and reminisces about her, in his mind, trying to amend the relationship and in the process he's trying to grasp onto what their relationship once meant to each other.
But, he comes to his senses and realises that it can never happen and that it's over and the past is the past.
"Wait and minute heres the punchline" makes me think of him snapping out of his thoughts, he's stopped drowning himself in his emotions thinking of what ifs and all the questions left unanswered . . and he's trying to remind himself that "oh wait, thats right it's over, who am I too think t's possible to get back what we once had" so he just keeps it all to himself and doesn't act upon what he really wants, which is he wants her back.
but yeah . .I'm not entirely sure about it's meaning. But those are my thoughts for now lol.
Here's the correct lyrics btw . .
"Excuse me there, could someone take this broken bottle.
And explain to me, explain to me
All the reasons why we've come undone
And why the streetlight couldn't hold anyone
If there was reason in eternity
Then all the forces in this place would bring you back to me.
But if you see me coming up again
I will never spend
A day without you in my head, in my
But if we crawl in to the morning we will never see the light
And if we leave it up to fate then we could fall in love tonight
And if you spend another minute trying to find out what it's worth
You could sweep me off my feet and you could bring me down to earth
Now wait a minute here's the punch line
And if you want this to be special then you'd better keep it to yourself,
Yourself, yourself, yourself
Now wait a minute here's the second time
And if you want this to be special then you'd better keep it to yourself,
Yourself, yourself and your health
But if you see me coming up again
I will never spend
A day without you in my head, in my head.
But if we crawl in to the morning we will never see the light
And if we leave it up to fate then we could fall in love tonight
And if you spend another minute trying to find out what it's worth
You could sweep me off my feet and you could bring me down to earth
Oh oh oh, yeah.
Now wait a minute here's the punch line
Now wait a minute here's the punch line
Now wait a minute here's the punch line
Now wait a minute here's the breakdown!
No we're out of time again.
