Brad Nowell wrote real music about real life struggles. yea he sings about being on drugs but at the same time telling the dangers of it. if u dont like the sublime version then dont listen to it and go back to sucking steve earls dick. if u have anything else to get off your breast, feel free.

Yeah, so Bradley did drugs, and he was out of it some of the time, forgot words to songs, etc. But that makes him human and although the song was poorly interpreted, it still sounds pretty damn good. Bradley had problems, we all know, but he was a unique talent that just pulled you into his world. Just because he forgot a few lyrics and made a few mistakes doesn't make him a "dope fiend dead bastard."

I think Bradley was depressed because his band wasn't have the success he'd hoped it would have, and when he finally got the success, he was already too deep into numbing his feelings with drugs that it was nearly impossible to get out. He went to rehab at least a couple of times, and he really tried to get sober for his son, but addiction is a terrible, fatal disease. Especially when it involves heroin and Valium. So judge not before you fool yourself. Judge not, or you're not ready for judgment.
Steve Earle did not write the song. The original is by The Slickers, a jamaican reggae group. I have heard all the covers of this song and I must say, none come even close to the greatness of the original.
