To me the song seems to be saying, "It's okay to start small." When we have big plans, when there are problems in our lives that seem like mountains, we usually want to tackle it all at once. We don't want to take baby steps or start with training wheels, we want to do it NOW, and we don't have the patience for the steps it will take to get us there. This song is saying not to despise those steps. We can't tackle it all at once. We have to chip away at it, with the Lord's help, until it "becomes a plain in our eyes."
