for me, i think this song is about when you're desperate for something different to what you've known in the past. something better. and you meet someone, and you want them to be the change that you've been waiting for
"wanted to be anything different,
everything you would change in me..."
but for one reason or another, you can't get things off the ground, and so you're left right back where you began; just wishing that things would change and that something will happen. moreso that someone will make things change.
I don't know if that makes any sense at all to anyone else, but that's what it means to me.
