Conversation Piece Lyrics

Cover art for Conversation Piece lyrics by David Bowie

The song, I think, is pretty self-explanatory, and I really like Shiggy's explanation. I think just about everyone at some point in their lives has felt like this, maybe not to the suicidal aspect of it. I actually never saw that way of looking at it until I read the comments on here, but it does make a whole lot of sense. It saddens me to think these thoughts, for the sake of art or in the form of actual feelings, were in Bowie's mind at anytime. "I'm invisible and dumb, no-one will recall me" - if he only knew! Which is why his updated version of the song is a bit more haunting.

You wouldn't happen to know the relevance of this line?

"But for all my years of reading conversation, I stand without a word to say"

I do not understand why he is stuck for words in front of the Austrian?

Is he saying that he actually has being reading conversation? because he doesn't get it in real life.

Also: you wouldn't happen to know why he mentioned this line striaght after referring to his education? "It all seems so long ago"

ou wouldn't happen to know the meaning of this line?

"While the light that shines above the grocer's store investigates my face so rudely"

Is he trying to say that he feels people are judging him? vulerable? naked? Or is he saying he feels self-conscious?

If so, this wouldn't make sense as he says he's "invisible"

Cheers
