Kate has had many cats. The first two were called Zoodle and Pyewacket. Zoodle died in 1987, and then she adopted a stray cat who had three kittens. She named them Rocket, Sparky and Torchy. Rocket's Tail, from the album The Sensual World, was named after Rocket and dedicated to him, but otherwise the song has nothing to do with the cat.
KaTe actually called Pyewacket "Pye!" ... or "Pi!" ... :)
Pye/Pi was part of her family. Calling out Pi, feeding Pye, watching Pi play would have happened every day. And KaTe would certainly have become familiar with the language of Pye!
Pyewacket can mean "a witch's familiar". So KaTe could have dedicated Pi to her cat Pyewacket, giving the song the witch's dimension... :)
