He's sleeping a shoulder that he's never met because he doesn't know all sides of her.

You're down and I said" I think he means she is coming down from a manic episode.
In the end, again, he is contemplating running away from it all. If he sticks around, he will "freeze to death" from all the coldness around him and in the relationship.
