i almost feel like andy hull is gently criticizing the people he is sympathizing with. like, the chorus just being "la-di-da" to me means that he's kind of saying that we've all heard these tragic stories before, and that these people in tragic situations have the power to change them, or that those around them could help, but choose not to.
