my whole comment didn't get through, and now I have to type it again:( Anyways, I have a theory to add onto the obvious 'bf/gf aren't good for each other but love each other' meaning. during the chorus, I think it's about the girl leaving the guy every time they fight and ending up with total jerks who treat her bad, and he's saying to them 'back off, she's a lady, don't mess with her'..I think. Probably wrong, but that's what I get:/
