paul_banks, I just discovered Mansun today. I actually even thought they were a newish band until I did some research. But I agree completely: ahead of their time and SO GOOD.
Onto the song itself, I have two schools of thought with this: a) it's about someone (everyone?) around them telling them they should have "regrets" or shouldn't be so happy or something along those lines. Hence the change of tone when he sings "you're so full of venom that you'll spit into your own sweet face" which is sort of like the singer's t own houghts on the "disgusting" comments by the others.
or... b) he's singing about himself... self-loathing?
