They care about how they look (suffer for fashion), yet try not to have personal attachments even though they do "Please call to say that you miss me, feel me, or whatever" and their friends (the line about keeping their clique "clicking.}" I think sirens are indeed a reference to Greek mythology, and the person is realizing people do indeed get old.
Instead of growing old, though, the person has other plans, "If we've got to burn out, let's do it together." It's kind of an FU to growing old.
