to me i think this song's sort of related to him losing faith in what he once strongly believed in or followed (rewind back to the time where he could do anything, pay any price..). Giving his life just to fade away sounds like he also had a lot of trust in a specific person and this person that he once believed in has also turned out to be a waste of time, and now with everything falling apart, he's gotta get away from it all because there's nothing or no one left to rely upon.
