Kyle Field gets into the meaning of this song a bit in the movie, "Wise Old Little Boy." He and Phil Elvurm from the Microphones/Mount Eerie have a mutual friend who at the time this song was written, said "Boom" often. For example, "can I have a drink of your water?" "Boom! Here you go." Elvurm and Field use each other's lines a lot in their songs. The reference to the Gleam is an Elvrum quote/ shout out/ whatever. I think that this song represents two friends telling each other to cheer up, the worst is over, the gleam is coming back, you're out of the dark pit where you couldn't be/ weren't yourself.
