I disagree... I think this song is about how Television takes over your life.

"Life means nothing, when no one knows your name I never had too much but I'd give it all for fame Baby, baby" Here he is talking about what TV makes you believe. TV makes you believe that Life means nothing if you are not famous, and people would give anything for fame.

"She's there on the TV, so beautiful on screen Selling me a life I've never known and never seen Baby, baby" TV tells you how life should be lived.

"Television, new religion, let everyone sing Hallelujah Politicians, don't wanna listen, they only wanna make money out of you Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah" This is pretty straight forward. Television is the new way of life, new religion. We do what it tells us to do. And the "Politicians"/government don't care about you, only want to make money out of you.

"Newspaper headlines, I can't believe my eyes No tales of war and destruction, but who said what last night On the TV, well it could be me" He can't believe how they put things that don't matter on newspapers instead of things that do. What Britney said last night is irrelevant, personally, I agree, I really don't care about celebrity life. But instead of the wars going on and all of the important issues, they tell us about celebrity life. Perhaps they are trying to get our mind of what is really going on.

"Through the shop window it's a widescreen world But I can't afford a thing and I never get the girl, It ain't easy, no it ain't easy" Widescreen world is referring to a widescreen Television. He can't afford the things on TV and he never gets the girl on TV (The perfect girl), but TV tells him that he must get her.

"If I only had you, If I only had you If I only had you, If I only had" TV makes him believe everything will be perfect if he just had the girl. Perhaps the Happy endings on movies.

"You know we always want something But somehow we end up with nothing nothing" We don't (not in all cases :P ) get the things we see on TV. Life is not like Television, although we believe it to be because it's our(new generation) religion. We wear what they wear, we look like they look and we live like they live. TV sets the norm.

Great song.
