I think this is about people who have original ideas and want to express them, but because the current society has such ideals, these people won't express their original ideas, but instead go with the mass and be like everyone else. And they know deep inside that they are pathetic like all others and that they reached rock bottom. They are also hoping for something (a 'saviour') to make it possible for them to express those ideas they have.
I doubt this is about them changing their sound.
