I very much agree with mockingsmile. The first couple of times I listened, I thought it was about lesbianism in general, but then I came to believe it was about a girl only pretending to be a lesbian. In context, it is Chelsea. The lines "Chelsea was the girl who's been abused, it changed her philosophy in '82" infer that Chelsea was in an abusive relationship, theoretically with a man, and thus decided to try her luck with women. Apparently, it doesn't really work out as well as she hoped.
