I think the whole song is a metaphor. I think the whole "never gonna dance again" bit is saying you're never going to love again. It's after a break up but you can't bring yourself to have a good time so instead you just think about the old times when you had fun enjoying the music/enjoying being with the person you love. In the end when you try to get over the person you love (or when you try to dance), it's hard and still painful. There's nothing your friends (of the DJ) can do to help you.
