First one to comment!!! Yay!

I'm not sure what this song is about, I was hoping to read someone elses ideas before adding my own, but here goes: I think it's about someone who publicly said or did something that others (their friends) were not comfortable with. That person has been "shunned" and is now alone. (I think "lost down the Thames" may refer to where the person's friends have all gone - it could relate specifically to a certain event I suppose?) Their old friends are "whispering" and gossiping - "What have you done?" etc The person is alone at the moment... "where are your friends, silly thing" To me "silly thing" is quite endearing really, it's what my mum might say really, so I think the songwriter is siding with the person Even though they've been shunned, the person still thinks they did the right thing: "and still you sing...I did it for me, I did it for you, I did it for everyone" Although what they did has upset people they did it for the good of everyone and they wish that others could see that: "Then all of the world would be singing it too."

So, that's my interpretation...what do you think???
