i think the arabs with knives was just a scary image he woke up to (not sure what the political situation was then, if it was made today most of us would say its to do with the fear of terrorism) there doesnt have to be any rhyme or reason to it but the german setting could be related to his obsession with the war due to his dads death, maybe its the sexual taboo of getting it on with this german woman
