All those keyboard parts and textures were originally written to be played on guitar. His producer or somebody made him change the guitar parts to keyboard parts, and i believe that is Marx's reason behind hating the song.
Anyway, I think the song itself is about a breakup (that much is obvious) but a breakup from a relationship where he was unsure if he really loved whoever he was with. Or maybe he was so happy, that her touch seemed surreal to him. Im not too sure.
