To me this song is sort of self explanatory, the opening kind of sets up the meaning of the song.

Its about a relationship between a guy and a girl ending, 'no mistakes to be made anymore for you and her' like they've messed up so much they can't mess up any more, 'i sense you're cold' like it cant be prevented because the guy just can't take anymore of the relationship but doesn't want to end it.
but then best friend of the guy is trying to explain that everything will be okay, and he'll always be there and one day the friend will accept that his friend will be there for him.
The rest of the song talks about how time won't effect the relationship between the guys because they'll always have each other to rely on.
And i sort of doubt that it is about self harm (sorry), since the lyrics say
'Don't ever do that again, she's not worth it, no I cannot watch you die'
Which looks like the guy tried to kill himself over the girl, but the bestfriend is trying to remind him that the girl isn't worth is, and he can't watch his friend fall to pieces and die because of her.
