I love this song =]
I don't really know what it means,,, but i'd like to think it has something to do with the fact that sleeping is a good escape
More likely, it could be saying that everyone is kind of blind to the truth, that there is more to life and we all want a sense of completeness, but we can't wake up to it or get ourselves together enough to get up and figure out what it is.
The line 'But if you're fighting against the wind' says to me that by trying to get up and find something real you're facing a whole heap of opposition, trying to force you back into apathy.
the second verse...
'So in the morning when we lay here dark and still
We wait for sunrise
Familiar voices tell us tales of what's to come
As they pass on by'
...i think represents that the 'voices' telling us to find something real are not powerful or obvious, but more like whispers, as they come in the dark, still morning. So basically the opposition trying to keep us from finding anything real or meaningful in life are way stronger than the need or desire to find it.
i dunno if that makes sense or is on the right track at all, but thats how i look at it.
