Someone who is totally godless (including all other god-replacements e.g. the human spirit, the tao, etc.), would hold nothing higher than their own whims. The truly goddess individual would be intolerable and incapable of anything but a very conditional, temperamental love.
For me the idea of being 'godless' doesn't mean someone who lacks faith, spirituality or deference to a higher authority necessarily but someone who has no loyalties other than to him or herself. Someone who is ultimately selfish in their relationships with others. I have heard the word godless used to describe people in that way.
