this song reflects the typical anti-Christian metal trend. metal is trendier than you all think.
"Taking an anti Christian stance has always been popular in metal (except Dave Mustaine)"
true, but Dave Mustaine is not the only exception. Christian metal is a valid genre, but hardly comparable to traditional metal. It would be nice to see Christian metal enter the metal mainstream...something the typical metalhead would not like to see. they are set on their angst-ridden, hateful form of the mainstream (as most social mainstreams are)
this song is a response to the typical American and antireligious and irreligious delusion. many find themselves logically idealizing a perceived offense from Christianity, something along the lines of "they shove it down our throats," or "they control everything." this is usually the result of some deeply rooted psychological void within the ego of the individual (no, not just some "his father didnt hug him enough when he was a child"). many studies have been done. it is amazing to discover how screwed up people can make themselves.
"98% of religion I a load of shit its a form of control and making money, so to me this isn't an attack on God but is on religion, God doesn’t stand for money God is there to be followed when you want if you want. "
more like 1/98%. if you ever discussed religion with someone who knows what theyre talking about (or say, take a class in theology...something i suggest heavily), you'd realize that your shallow, man-made, media-fronted statistic has no basis in reality, just like the entire ideology of this song. you continue to allow your personal, emotional doubt take control of your life.
musicians should stick with playing music. when uneducated, uninformed, or misinformed individuals start trying to indoctrinate innocent kids sitting in their bedroom, trouble is usually the outcome.
they are commiting the very act they speak against...the true hypocrites.
Well to be honest, the views portrayed in this song are the views of Machine Head and they have the right to express them. And if you are telling musicians not to express views on religion then you are as bad as they. Worse in fact... you don't have badass riffs and awesome solos.

Blackened98: Evolution is a proven scientific principle, it is the cornerstone of human understanding of biology. I suppose you would say that scientists are just following the anti religious, irreligious science trend.

Belief in the supernatural is fundamentally irrational. To live by restrictive and authoritarian rules, to believe you are always being watched by a supernatural being is to negate one's reason and one's freedom. Religion is nothing more than superstition and myth. Don't dare say being irreligious is a delusion when you believe in an invisible man in the sky. God is a delusion.

Wow, question one person's belief for questioning yours. great job man. solid arguement.

And dont you dare say scientists have ulterrior motives, they do what they do not because they want to spite religion, but to understand the world in which they live.

Also, way to get defensive (proving his point about how people just dont want to be mainstream, which is strangley mainstrem now, imagine that.) and miss Blackened's point, which is that we have a lot of uneducated opinions, and that there is more to this song, the band, and the genre that a lot of people don't...

There are metal bands that have Christian members that aren't Christian metal bands. For instance: As I Lay Dying, Thrice (well, original Thrice, before they changed their style fifty times...), I Hate Sally (I think), and plenty more. Several bands like that are mainstream, and quite valid. I love this song because of it's music, and I love the attitude of this song. I don't necessarily feel the same about the message, but that doesn't stop me from listening to it. The metal of this song is pretty much perfect. And another thing I enjoy about this song is the...

Rated 0 Fine you have a religious denomination. I'm not going to tell you your beliefs are wrong, false, or otherwise non-existent. I'm not calling Catholics/Christians wackos. Heck, religious or not, there are plenty of wackjobs to even the playing field.

Like another user stated, just because I listen to Halo, doesn't mean I follow or believe in the lyrics. Hell, I listen to Country sometimes. On that same playlist I might have Slayer in rotation. Who gives a fuck. If you like it, turn it up.

I grew up going to Baptist, Presbyterian, Protestant. I read alot of fairy tales and quite honestly, that's what the bible was to me. So call me crazy, uneducated, what have you - to each his own. Just because your buddies can explain five different denominations gives you a hard on, doesn't mean it will give us one.
