i honestly don't think that Goodbye Blues was a really good album (i bought it the day i came out, so i didn't hear any reviews about it yet).
i have to admit, greta's voice certainly annoyed me on the album.
i kept on wondering when she wold stop singing, and then this song came on.
i immediately fell in love with the lyrics, BOB'S (not greta's) voice and i just fell in love with the song.
this is definitely my favorite song off of the album.
it's very catchy and gets stuck in my head often.

the lyric booklet reads exactly:
"Shackles and Chains get in the way and I'm lost in the gardener's gate"
as for the meaning, the only part i can interpret is:
"It's all sinking in
I'd probably just swim if I could
But I can't, so I'm just hanging on and on

You know it won't be long
Before the lights are out"
the relationship is going bad, and he would work it out if he could, but he can't. however, he's still hanging on and he wants the girl to let him go because he knows it won't be long till their love is gone.
