"Quick to slam the gavel on a true solution
You let the fear become a stranglehold
Tear it all apart so you can render your own belief
You never listened to what you were told"
That bit reminds me of the state of many of the Churches in todays world. They want to 'find a solution' to the lack of belief problem, and so they 'render their own beliefs' to fit with todays standards. This has sickened me, as I have been to several Churches where the whole thing revolved around singing and chatting with eachother, which is good, but there was pretty much no sermon. And they never even mentioned hell, it was all about Jesus loves you no matter what, which although it is true, they didn't know that they should strive to live a better life. They were told that they were perfect as they are, which is one of the most Un-Christian things that can be said.
My view of faith is obviously based on love, but, we are not to 'render our beliefs' so that others will like us. We will be despised, because we don't agree with many of the 'standards of today'. We should despise sexual immorality, we shouldn't change the laws to allow homosexuals to get married, or for people to get divorced for the incorrect reasons. And the punishments for doing so are made clear in Revelations, for it says: "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of the prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
The rest of the song doesn't really agree with this idea, but I thought I would mention this, as even if if my interpretation isn't the intention, it is still a valid point and one that we, as Christians, should attend to. Otherwise our faith will keep being changed, until their is nothing left but lies that will condemn us all to hell.
Wow.. Wisdom is clearly something you are not lacking.... Whether or not what you said is exactly what DH had in mind at the time of writing this song, you certainly "spoke" truth and should seriously consider preaching or something like that.. b/c what you have to say is so real and accurate and could have an extreme impact on the way "Christian's" behave which would lead to the way we are viewed... wow

I agree, both with your interpretation and AbbeyRoad's comment. I also think that your interpretaion applies to the entire song. Some christians want "perfection", to be accepted by God and the world. So they create for themselves a faith that is mostly man made and man centered but hangs on to a sliver of truth, "your darkness stands on a thread of pinhole light," and that way you end up contradicting yourself. By trying to protect yourself from persection your created faith is "a heart made of glass" that is easily shattered by the "charming grenade" of the world....
