i love this song. i think it's just about needing to escape from your life, so you can live. i think we've all felt like doing that at one time or another.
i think you have the words wrong though. i think it's supposed to be "and all i wanted was someone who could see that i AM just like anybody" as apposed to "ain't just like anybody". it makes more sense with the song that way.
