This seems like a conversation really. Two people talking back and forth about a relationship with each other that has broken apart.
It's a crime you let it happen to me
Nevermind, I'll let it happen to you
Out of mind, forget it there's nothing to lose
But my mind and all the things I wanted
(This first verse is the person who was hurt. Let’s say it’s a girl for giggles. She is so devastated by what has happened that she considers what was done a crime, and wishes the same hurt on their ex. She keeps trying to push her love out of her mind for fear of going crazy with grief and loss.)
Everytime I get it I throw it away
It's a sign, I get it, I wanna stay
By the time I lose it I'm not afraid
I'm alive but I can Surely fake it
(This is the one who broke up with the first person. Again let’s say it’s a guy for giggles. He obviously has a history of bad relationships because when he finally meets this girl who could be the one... he gets scared and throws the relationship away. The only thing is, he’s torn. He doesn’t want to throw it away but can’t help it. He wants to stay with her and without her he is miserable at best.)
How can I believe, when this cloud hangs over me,
You're the part of me that I don't wanna see?
Forget it
(This bit is the both of them. They both are feeling empty without the other and can’t really believe that they don’t want to see each other again... no matter how hard they try. Unfortunately the two of them think it’s too late and just say forget it... better to try and erase memories than keep them and be hurt all over again.)
There's a place I see you following me
Just a taste of all that might come to be
I'm alone but holding breath you can breathe
To question every answer counted
(This is the both of them retreating into their memories. They are remembering what they wanted to have in their life with each other. They wanted a life with that house and white picket fence. They wanted the careers and kids running around like idiots. They remember that they are a part of each other...Their hearts beat the same rhythm)
Just fade away
Please let me stay
Caught in your way
Forget it
Just fade away
Please let me stay
Caught in your way
I could live forever here
(Here they both are pleading with each other... They both are torn between wanting to forget or get back together. They are so in tune with each other that they are continually caught in each other’s mind.)
It's a crime you let it happen to me
Out of mind, I love it, easy to please
Never mind, forget it, just memories
On a page inside a spiral notebook
(I think the girl is an avid writer here. She probably keeps a journal and writes every day. She is cynical right here.. Saying that the break up is easy to deal with if it is out of her mind. She is just dismissing thir time together as scribbles on a page. If they are no more than that.. Why be so upset?)
Just fade away
Please let me stay
Caught in your way
I can live forever here
Forget it
How can I believe, when this cloud hangs over me,
You're a part of me that I don't wanna see?
I can live forever here
( This is the guy ending out the song while engulfed in his memories of the girl. He still doesn’t believe that he wants to be away from her... but feels it’s over and would rather spend his life in his memories rather than truly let this girl go.)
Its a really tragic story to me.... but like someone said before: music is entirely open to suggestion.
