I agree Terrorhawk. Though I think it might be returning home from a semester at school rather than a late night at work. Long drive (200 miles long) back to his parents house.

I do wonder what the problem was when he got home though. Maybe quite literally a funeral for his dog? And what's up with the line "put a camera in my car, and you get me less and less and less." ?

I think that line has to do with the line about driving home. I think he's pretty much saying, if you could see what i do when i'm alone you'd get me even less. in this case he's using the example of the car. I see it as him kind of singing in the car like many of us do, with no inhibitions, thus the line, " i need a windsheild built for war, that can withstand my confidence." just my interpretation.
