I think this song is about someone who saw that those who surround him are staying quite and do not act on a certain bad situation (“passive friends”). The bad situation may be that the he is degraded by the fact that his girlfriend left him... The best way out of it would be to lead the way (“light the torch”) and act on his problems, knowing that some support from his friends will allow him to act swiftly ("Give me a sign and Ill do just What Im thinking right away")…
