Lewis88 has a very positive/good outlook on this song. However, I interpret this a little differently.
I find it to be about a couple, eh?

what I see from that is that he is aware that there will be an end to this.
I don't think he means death by this 'bitter end' either.

I think he's getting somewhere, therefore, the girl doesnt care.
