@zeeb I know you wrote this remark many years ago, but I totally agree! I thought I was nuts but this is exactly what this song brings to mind for me...one part of a couple dying, the other knowing they are waiting for him 'beyond the sea', and that they will be together again in the afterlife. If you and I see it that way, then I am sure others do as well! Such a beautiful song, I love Bobby Darin's version the most.

@zeeb YES!! The woman he's singing about is OBVIOUSLY dead. That's why she's beyond this infinite sea, past the stars, and he wants to "fly like birds on high" (up to heaven or whatever), and he can only get to her when he goes "sailing" for the last time ("Happy we'll be beyond the sea / And never again I'll go sailing").
