I think it's "as it clicks away" instead of "is eight clicks away". That would make more sense anyway.
I don't think that Steven is about childbirth and sorrow for the mother. Steven is about the narrator meeting a guy named Steven who taught him/her to loosen up and have fun and be wild ("learning to laugh and not ask why"). Then, the narrator gets a kid, and starts to long for Steven and his carefree lifestyle ("Steven, I miss you, etc."), and wants to run away again ("Should I change my name and move to the country?"), but he realizes that doing so would be irresponsible ("the kid logic dissolves and it all starts to give away"). At that point, he notices that he's changed into a more mature person, and laments that ("I want to be myself, / but I am somebody else").
Basically, Steven is about changing from a kid to an adult, and the inability to stop it.
