I believe this song represents a couple of people who started as friends and became lovers. I believe the relationship switches titles but they never part completely. It's like an everlasting relationship be it as friends or as lovers. They love each other period. It also delves into seeing the relationships withing the relationships swtching as well. When they are lovers they each have friends, when they are friends they each have lovers. Great song again, I wish there was a studio version. I think in the beggining he says something else after New York (sounds like eyes or ahh). PS - 1st again!
