Johnny Thunders was the guitarist for the New York Dolls.
They split and he became Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers.
He was a notorious heroine addict for most of his career.
Even though he was clean for a while he was found dead in the St. Peter House in New Orleans because of an overdose, which is what this song is about.
The story was that he tried to score heroine from these guys but they gave him acid instead. There was methadone involved somewhere and blah blah the amount of drugs in his system was allegedly "not fatal" and people typically think there was foul play involved.
The police didn't care enough to investigate because Johnny Thunders was a junkie.
But he existed none the less.
And kicked ass at that.
